Gulf Women is an ongoing project photographing the lifestyles of Emirati and Arab women living in United Arab Emirates. After the discovery of oil in the 1960's this country, once inhabited by nomadic Bedouins, was transformed into a Club Med paradise of luxury and excess. The modern gulf woman enjoys greater financial freedom and employment opportunities protected under the constitution, however this often clashes with traditional roles within an Islamic society. The idea of the egalitarian woman is slowly developing, but still remains largely confined to urban centers and upper-class circles.
